All the things that grow and live around us become organic waste after we’ve used them and thrown them away. If you throw away the food you couldn’t finish, that’s organic waste. If you throw away a banana peel, that’s organic waste too.

Have you noticed how many of the things that you throw in the litter bin are organic waste? No? Think about it next time you throw away something - is it organic waste?

We produce enormous amounts of litter everyday. There is so much litter that we have problems knowing what to do with it.

Some litter gets burned, but then a lot of fumes are emitted that have a bad impact on our environment. Some litter is buried deep down, but that can harm the animals living in the soil. Organic waste is a big part of the litter that is thrown away everyday. If we took the organic waste out from the litter, less litter would have to be burned or buried.

Did you know that you can buy or build a compost bin, where you can put organic waste and turn it into nutrient-rich soil?
