The Ingvar Guðni Machine Shop (Vélsmiðja Ingvars Guðna in Icelandic, or VIG) has set itself the following environmental policy:
VIG manufactures high-quality products. By using excellent, careful procedures, long durability is ensured which reduces negative environmental impacts. The company is aware of the importance of a non-polluted environment and its duties to limit negative environmental impacts. In all its operations, VIG will look for ways of utilising raw materials in the best possible ways, will limit pollution and will strive to dispose of all hazardous waste in appropriate ways. The company is a leader in its field in environmental matters and is aiming at environmental certification of its operations on an annual basis.
Targets:
-
In design and crafting, emphasis is put on utilisation of materials in such a way that little is left over and waste is thus limited.
-
Arrange the production such that optimum utilisation is obtained in the transportation of raw materials, which will in turn reduce the emission of undesirable gases.
-
Save energy as much as possible, without this impacting on the quality of the products.
-
Strive to limit waste and hazardous waste as much as possible.
-
All hazardous waste will be disposed of in a recognised way from now on (as has been done up till now as well).
-
Be careful in the choice of packaging, to reduce waste.
-
Ensure that VIG products take up as little space as possible to save space in transportation and packaging.
-
Attempt to blend VIG products into the environment as much as possible so they are not too prominent.
Goals for 2010:
-
Reduce energy use by 2010 by 20% by setting up a heat pump, as VIG is in a “cold” area.
-
Achieve even better utilisation of transportation equipment in the transportation of projects and raw materials.
-
Make the VIG surroundings even tidier.
-
Gather together orders of smaller purchases to minimise the amount of driving.
