During the summer Beluga was approached by a Polish organisation, the Centre for Citizenship Education, with a view to being a partner in an application they were making within the framework of the EEA Financial Mechanisms. Several Norwegian bodies were also approached.
The project concerns education of young people within local communities on issues regarding sustainability, with a view towards changing the behaviour and attitudes of townspeople as a whole. Beluga accepted the challenge, which will involve providing ideas and giving lectures in Poland. CCE will know the result of their application by the end of this year and will let us know.
Another project concerns application for funding from the EU by way of their Life+ project. This is something that Beluga is applying for by itself but will be carried out in association with contacts in Poland and Sweden. The idea is to market Beluga's environmental policy certification in Europe, focusing on Sweden and Poland. The deadline is the end of November but we will not know the results until the middle of next year. The project must not start before January 2009 and will be funded for two years. Wish us luck!
