Without energy, nothing would happen when you tried to turn on the light in your room, the milk would not be cold when you take it out of the refrigerator and you could not watch TV or play computer games. In order for all these things to work we need energy.
Energy is produced in many different ways. It can, for example, be produced in nuclear power plants, wind power stations or hydro-electric power stations. Nuclear power leaves dangerous waste and water- and wind power stations, while better than nuclear power stations in many ways, often mean building large construction plants that destroy and disturb the land and all the animals that live on it.
Did you know that over 50% of the energy produced in the world is used by only 20% of the world’s population?
If we use less energy, less nuclear waste would be produced and less wind- and water power stations would have to be built.
It's easy to use less energy than you do today. For example, you can:
· Put on a sweater next time you feel cold in your house instead of turning the heat up.
· Turn off the TV/computer when no one is using it.
· Always turn off the lights when leaving a room.
